Im sure by now everyone has read about the tragedy surrounding the death of the family of Canadian Wrestler Chris Benoit... Benoit, born in Montreal but raised in Edmonton Ab, took the life of his wife Nancy and son Daniel last weekend before taking his own sometime Monday, an act that first isnpired shock, then outrage as the details emerged.
Atlanta authorites, acting on a call from WWE management when Benoit failed to appear for two scheduled shows then repeatedly sent unsettling text messages to some of the other perfomers, went to Benoits residence. There they found the bodies of Benoit, known as the Rabid Wolverine, hung by a cable of a weight-machine, his wife strangled and his son, who suffered from Fragile X syndrome. Bibles were found next to the mother and son.
At this juncture all leads point to Benoit - the press has more or less tried and convicted him before all the evidence is in; as last report the autopsies have yet to be performed which may be the most telling case. Anabolic steroids found in Benoit's home lead many to believe this may have been a case of "roid rage", severe aggressive behavior brought on by long term use. The only thing that DOESNT fit the pattern here is the fact that his wife was bound BEFORE she was killed and the placment of the bibles beside the bodies... not the signs of a man filled with "paranoia and anxiety".
Along with the media frenzy comes, of course, the "conspiracy theories" - timelines that dont seem to mesh, WWE officials who seemed to know WAY TOO MUCH too soon... and then theres the fact that the wrestlers Wikipedia web page was altered to mention the death of his wife HOURS before the authorities discovered the bodies. Was there another hand in play here or is it just a case of an act so unbelievable that the obvious seems too vile to comprehend.
Cold blooded murder, pharmaceutically induced rage or a mystery that may NEVER be solved the thing that seems to be overlooked in all this is the lives that have been lost...
I met Chris Benoit years ago.... he was in town for a pay per view event and dropped into BJs Gym for a workout. Benoit graduated from the Stu Hart wrestling dungeon before he embarked on his career and as it happens BJ Annis, owner of BJs Gym, is married to one of the Hart daughters. Benoit took the time to shake every hand in the room, stopping to chat with most everyone and even offered me encouragement for my workout (I was recovering from a broken shoulder at the time). Its hard to imagine the same affible, likeable, smiling man taking the life of his loved ones, especially his son Daniel who many say "meant the world to him".
Ya know the longer I live,
the more confusing life gets...

I did hear about this, but not in any detail. Sounds like there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Hi Wil. Just passing through..what a terrible tragedy this is!
Fragile X Syndrome is in my family. I think you know that already. I bet that put a lot of stress on the family. I just pray they are all at peace..somewhere.
That story's been getting some coverage in Australia too - just horrible to think about. You can never know what's lurking deep in people's personalities - fortunately in the vast majority of cases, what's beneath the surface is safe.
